Feature: Atlanta Independent Record Labels To Know About

Since Andre 3000 made it known that the South had something to say, hip hop hasn't been the same. 20 years later, Atlanta and the South is still making a lot of noise in regards to music. With this new age hip hop stirring up the pot, Atlanta is home to some of the hottest rising stars on the scene such as OG Maco, Rome Fortune, Fortebowie, ILoveMakonnen, Key! and more. Atlanta's not only home of great artists, but great independent labels including Think It's a Game Records and Quality Control. In the era of SoSo Def, Jermaine Dupri had a hand in the careers of many major artists today. Now, these Atlanta independent labels are behind some of the hottest artists to date. Below are four indie rap labels you should get familiar with:

Think It's A Game Entertainment is home to Trinidad Jame$, Rich Homie Quan and Fortebowie. Rich Homie is one of the largest rap artist at the moment with his breakout hit "Type Of Way". Now, he's been linked with Birdman, YG, Yo Gotti as well as hitting the road with Wiz Khalifa. Quan has been with the independent lable TIG since 2012 who helped him break out from local artists to household name. Fly, CEO of Think Its A Game Entertainment gave insight into the label in a 4 part vlog series. Watch part 1 below:

Quality Control, QC, is home to the Migos, one of the most influential music groups to come out of Atlanta with their signature flow and fashion sense. Quality Control is an independent label who has a strong roster including Rich the Kid, Johnny Cinco, Jose Guapo, Skippa Da Flippa just to name a few. QC the Label embodies the ideology that's the rap game is no different that the trap game. Now, their newest signee, OG Maco, has the world in a frenz as he leads a new generation of rap rock stars.

'The Next Generation'

Spillage Village and Awful Records are two rising independent labels in Atlanta each filled with a roster of uniquely talented individuals. Awful Records houses eleven artists including Father, ObieTheReal, Richposlim, and Lord Narf. They keep in all  in-house from production to videography. Awful has captured the attention of Fader in a series of features, even hitting Fader Fort a few months ago. Awful Records has a compilation record dropping in 2015.

Spillage Village includes the duo Earthgang, J.I.D, JordanxBryant and Hollywood JB who provides a different approach to the rap game with their intellectual wordplay. This summer, Earthgang and J.I.D of SpillVill  hit the road with TDE's Ab-Soul on his These Days Tour. Last year, the Spillage Village camp gave us a compilation tape titled Bears Like This to give more insight on what the label has in store:

One thing Awful and Spillage Village has in common is that they are centered around a strong bond of long lasting friendships. With a new year around the corner and the music scene glued to the rising generation in Atlanta, it's only a matter of time that Awful and Spillage Village reach the level of QC, Think Its A Game, or even Cash Money. Only time will tell.
