Yani Mo (@yani_mo) - "Know U" dir. by Voncito of iLLmont [watch]
How do you like your rap?
Personally, I like my rap with a hint of spirituality, lush production, and technical prowess, amongst other things. If your tastes are anything like mine, then Yani Mo is right up your alley.
In short, Yani Mo is jazz, prose, poetry, and everything in between. At length, she's an up-and-coming artist from Georgia "with a knack for boom-bap" and a direct J Dilla influence.
Shall I continue? Cool, let's move on to "Know U."
Taken from her excellent Compound/Words EP (found here), "Know U" is a soothing cut featuring background vocals by Dana Washington and production by Mama G, who also handled the production duties for most of the EP.
Shot by Voncito of ILLmont, the video is a classic love story: girl meets boy, they fall for one another, and vibe out happily ever after (at least, that we know of).
Sounds good? Then check it out.
Also, if you're in Atlanta, do yourself a favor and catch her performance at ELEKTRIKOOLAID later today.
