Why Your Friends Aren't On Myspace?

Myspace has revamped its entire site along with a $20 million PR push to bring in a comeback. In the age of tweeting, liking and posting videos on Instagram, how does the originator of social media fit in?

The new and improved Myspace has completely reinvented itself with a changed interface and getting back to its music roots. Myspace, now owned by Specific Media and Justin Timberlake, keeps your profile picture, song, and infamous top 8, but adds a music library and new ways to connect with friends. Instead of "liking", users can make connections with photos or other users that now includes categories of artists, bloggers, photographers, filmmakers, and even comedians. It seems that the focus is now to connect entertainers with fans and networking with others in the industry.

The interface gets a makeover with a smoother design. Other social media sites have a downward scroll with updates automatically refreshing on the top. Myspace uses a horizontal scroll with users moving different screens from right to left. You can go from your homepage to your newsfeed with your music playlist playing the entire time.

So, it's easy to use with loaded of added features and a completely redesigned interface, so why aren't your friends on Myspace? I recently shared a post from the site onto my Twitter feed and got a raid of comments asking me why in the world was I on the Myspace. It's like the once popular website completely lost its respect as the father of social media. The name is now synonymous with spam messages, half  naked pictures , and the memory of its slow and painful death. Once Facebook opened its doors to the non-college crowd, Myspace began to be seen as a "middle school" site. Too many youngsters were now on the page and the older crowd was looking for a more mature way to network socially.

With major backers, new design, and focus, can Myspace hold its own in this generation? I think it can happen once others get past the stigma it once held. Don't worry, celebrities are on the site along with your favorite music. Try it out and add me HERE.
