The Evolution of Kanye West

Kanye West is no stranger to controversy, from the VMA fiasco in 2009 to his highly publicized relationship with Kim Kardashian, the rapper cannot escape the eyes of the media. When West emerged in the rap game, his rhymes were more focused on poetry rather than money and cars and he quickly made a name for himself as a conscious rapper. He shifted his focus to become mainstreamed by makings songs that would get more radio play.

West's evolution as an artist is one of the most talked about in rap history. He went from College Dropout to Yeezus, changing up his style along the way. Each album had a different feel and had many other artists following in the trend, whether it was auto-tune or dope productions. There's no denying the artistry behind Kanye's music, but has Hollywood changed the rapper?

The Chicago emcee began rhyming with his spoken word infused lines speaking about life and the racial aspects still found in today's society. By 2007, Kanye was a household name and arguably the best rapper on the mic. In 2007, the rapper lost his mother, Donda West to complications related to plastic surgery. The death of his mother began an emotional spiral for the artist. He blamed the pressures of  Hollywood on the her passing and never really learned how to deal with his celebrity. "I'm like an anti-celebrity, and my music comes from a place of being anti," said West in a recent interview with the New York Times.

Recently an audio clip surfaced of the rapper ranting about the infamous 2009 MTV Video Music awards where he interrupted the win of Taylor Swift. The recording explains why he felt the need to interrupt the country starlet and even took a nab at Pink. He asked why he didn't  perform his hit 'Heartless' while she performed twice. He chucked it up to race and was outraged by Eminem taking home a Moon Man for a VMA for the best rap video.

'Cause there ain't gonna be no more motherf---ing Elvises with no James Browns."
West's transition could be explained  by his identity crisis since his mother's death. He holds a hatred for Hollywood, but continues to be surrounded by controversy. Now, dating one of the most talked about celebrities and the mother of his first child, West can't get away from the spotlight. His latest album, Yeezus, speaks about his life as a A-list rapper that is now centered on high fashion, drugs, and bad b----s. He even started a line with APC, with white tees costing around $120! Talk about a 180 degree turn.
