In it's first week, Born Sinner came to a close second behind Kanye West's Yeezus. Cole even moved up his official release date to go heads up with the seasoned West. While Kanye had "meek" efforts to promote the album (simple cover art, projections), Cole took on a promo tour across the country for show titled "Dollar & a Dream". He even got help from pal, Drake, who bought out an entire stock of the album in a NY Best Buy as well as making an appearance at the show.
Since Soundclan began reporting the charts numbers, only 13% have landed the number one spot without debuting so. This is an uncommon trend for albums that quickly lose their momentum after their official release. Yeezus has dropped a shocking 83% in sales since its debut with many having mixed feelings about the albums tracks and title. However, the album has done extremely well considering the lead single's video, "Black Skinheads", isn't expected until next week.
Roc Nation proves its dominance on the charts as each of the top spots have been taken by a member or former member of the record label. Even Wale was a Roc Nation signee before signing on with MMG for his third album, Ambition. Jay Z's Magna Carta Holy Grail has already reached platinum status and the album just dropped yesterday, thanks to the major deal with Samsung Mobile. The album is expected to sell anywhere from 400K-600k this week.
