President Obama Pledges To Give 5% Of Salary
President Barack Obama has made a bold move in time of economic turmoil the country is currently facing. He has pledge to give 5% of his salary to the federal government in honor of the furloughed government workers, according to the Press Secretary Jay Carney on Wednesday.
President Obama currently makes a salary of $400,000. Since the amount cannot be amended, he will personally write a check to the U.S treasury every month starting in April for the amount of $20,000. "The President has decided that to share in the sacrifice being made by public servants across the federal government that are effected by the sequester, he will contribute a portion of his salary back to the treasury," stated Carney.
when the budget cuts went into effect on March 1, the OMB must cut $7 million of its $89 million remaining in its annual budget, resulting in its need for furloughs. The across the board cuts have effected millions of Americans from workers to students. The budget cuts have shrinked domestic programs such as the military and financial aid programs.
