My name is Shanika, and I'm a reformed shopping addict. There, I admit it. Before my days of GoodWill and Bargain hunting, I was a shopaholic. I mean, could you blame me. As a teenager and working, my money went towards me instead of bills. Those were the days. Now, that responsibility has kicked in, it's rare that you'll find me shopping in a place other than the GoodWill. I'm sure there are many college students reforming their ways, but luckily, I have a few tips to help you with your clothes shopping addiction, and that will help your wallet:
1. Shop out of season. Stores are looking to get rid of last season's items to bring in the new inventory. This is your chance to find great pieces for cheap. Add a nice cardigan and no one will question why you're wearing a tank top in December.
2. Check out your local GoodWill or Salvation Army. The GW and SA have grown in quality of products in recent years. While it may still take some digging, these stores have a wide selection that includes many high quality brands for cheap. One man's trash is another man's treasure.
3. Clearance Rack. Head to the back of the store to find the clearance items first. One of my favorite stores, Rue 21, constantly has great sales on graphic tees, jeans, and more. Check out the rack to see if you can find something before heading towards the regular priced items.
4. Plato's Closet. This is a consignment shop that offers stylish, gently used apparel for a great low price. They also accept clothing for payment! I've sold clothing to them before and left with a couple bucks in my pocket. They can be picky, but their selection is great for college students!
5. Shop online. You can find the best deals from your favorite stores online. Many of them offer lower prices online than what you would find in the store. Sign up for the mailing list to find out about their deals and specials.
6. Have a swap party. Get some friends together and host a swap party. Everyone bring clothes they don't want anymore, and you swap. Add some music and food, and you have yourself a party. Keep posted on the first Swap Party by "Mogul Moda" :)
7. Win on eBay! Auction-style sites such as eBay have clothing for cheap as long as you're the best bidder! Be careful when purchasing from eBay as that yoga mat could just be the case, which has happened to me. Always bid on items that have images from a shopper with a great score.
Shopping for clothes do not have to break the bank. We have enough things to pay for. Try out some of these low budget options and watch your closet grow! Happy Shopping ):
Dopefully,
Shanika Simmons
