8 Ways to Save on Textbooks

On top of tuition, room and board, and just living, college students have to add the costs of textbooks to the list. Remember the days of school supplied free books? Students spend almost $1000 each semester on textbooks alone, but that ends now. Check out these tips on how you can save in the textbook department  ..you can thank me later :)

1. Shop around! Don't be confined to YOUR school's bookstore. Check out local campuses or other bookstores prices to find the lowest prices. This takes time, but it'll be worth it.

2. Buy online. Purchase your books for a fraction of the price on sites such as Textbooks.com or Half.com. You can also sell back your book on these sites as well at the end of the semester.

3. Get the international version. For some reason, these are waaaay, cheaper and have little to no difference at all.

4. Older edition. Some classes will let you get by with last year's edition. They're relatively the same and costs a lot less than the latest edition.Ask your professor if it will be ok for you t use an older version as assignments and readings will be on different pages.

5. Use the library's. Most schools hold a copy of the textbook in the library or department. Just keep in mind that other students may want to use the book, so your time is limited with it. You can make copies of assignments or readings by doing this option!

6. Share! Have a buddy in the class? Share a textbook, split the cost and help keep a little money in your pocket. Great way to make a new friend, or get extra help on homework assignments.

7. Rent. You probably won't use the book again, so renting is an inexpensive option. Make sure to return the book on time in order to keep away from late charges!

8. eBooks. Some classes are fine with you buying the eBook version where you can have the textbook on your laptop. Cheaper than a traditional textbook, and comes with features such as quizzes and study guides.

There are many options when it comes to textbooks, so think again before spending an arm and a leg. Talk with your professor before hand to find out what's the best option for you and your particular class.

Dopefully,
Shanika
