Inspired by the article in Yahoo Finance, "25 Simple Ways to Save $1000", I started to think of some ways college students can save throughout the year. These little things have helped me save some money and I'm sure they could help you. The little pennies can help you in the long run:
1) Carpool or take public transportation. Gas prices are rising and can kill your wallet. Public transportation is a great way to get around your city. Check to see if your school has a Student discounted card. Carpooling to work or events can save on money as well. More than likely a friend will be headed your way because they need the same thing!
2) Split the bill. Sharing a pizza with your roommate or splitting the bill on a meal out can help you save a little cash too! Get a group of friends together and enjoy a movie night and pitch in on getting a large pizza. Don't forget to ask for a student discount too!
3) Change your phone plan. View your bill and see the average amount of minutes or messaging you use a month. Sometimes it's best to get a plan that includes unlimited messaging but with a smaller amount of data or minutes rather than getting an unlimited everything plan. 9 times out of 10, you never use all of your minutes because most phone companies free nights and weekends and mobile to mobile. Also, see if your provider has a student discount program with your school!
4) Check out the free events on campus. Flyers are posted everywhere for events on campus such as a movie nights, dances, premieres and more. These events also may include food, music, and socializing with classmates. Keep your eyes open for info from Student Activities for tickets to events around the city as well. Remember these come in a limited supply.
5) Use your school's services. Most schools have free access to computers, printing, faxing, and more. Use the gym to workout instead of getting a monthly membership.
Try out these helpful tips to help you save some money. Every penny saved helps. Be sure to check out the article "25 Simple Ways to Save $1000" found on Yahoo Finance.
