All Spring semester we were counting down until Summer, now that it's here, there seems to be nothing to do. Parents are annoying and life back at home just isn't as fun. If you're lucky, you're interning at a great place or working a part time job. However, there are some college students sitting around twiddling their thumbs. Here are a few tips on how to have a productive summer without blowing all of your money!
1. Check out a matinee! Now you have time to visit the movies during the day. Most theaters offer cheaper shows before 3pm. Ask your local theater if they offer any summer specials such as free screenings or discounted movies. My hometown used to show free older movies every Wednesday morning.
2. Go to the park. Get outside and enjoy the nice weather. With a few friends, you can take a walk down memory lane by spending the day at the park. See if you can still make it across the monkey bars!
3. Take a class at your local Recreation Center. Some offer cheap arts & crafts classes or fitness classes like Zumba!
4. Look in your local newspaper for free events around the city. Atlanta has free movie screenings at Georgia tech and festivals all over the city! Look in the community section to see about any holiday events or festivals! Get some friends together and make a day of it! Take lots of pictures!
5. Water guns! Buy some cheap water guns at the Dollar Store and spend the day playing in water. It's a good way to cool off and always a good time!
This summer, have fun, try a new hobby, or go back to your childhood with a trip to the park. All of these will keep money in your pocket and allow you to have fun. Being home after being away at college can be a bummer, so make the best of it!
