Yesterday was SUPPOSED to be payday. A good day, right? No longer a broke student! Nope. Funny how the universe works. I've been working hard at my new job and still have to climb a few hurdles. Unfortunately, the corporate offices at my job "forgot" to send all of our checks. It was pretty devastating especially for a person on a strict budget. Not getting paid when expected to can put a damper on your plans, especially when the first of the month is right around the corner. Bills, yay...blah. Life can definitely be unexpected, but here are a few tips to help you with your payroll woes:
1. Keep all of your records. Record when you clock in, clock out, take a break, etc. Compare it to your check to make sure that you are paid for the right hours. You can't always trust your manager to keep this record for you.
2. Have the Human Resources number saved in your phone. Whenever you have questions regarding payroll or any other important information, you should reach out to them. Get information on your benefits as well.
3. Stay on it. Unfortunately, everyone doesn't do their job right. You have to be the one to make sure things are fixed. Keep calling or watch your manager fix the issue. Just hearing "I'll fix it" isn't enough.
When dealing with payroll it's important to have all your information documented. Keeping your own personal records will aid you when things get messy. Also, having Human Resources on speed dial is a great reference to get information you may need. Sometimes you have to go over your manager's head, but that's fine. When it comes to money you worked hard for, there is no time for games. It was a bummer to not get paid on time, but it only pushes me to go harder.
