The search has officially ended, and I am now a new employee at Get Fresh Lime Mexican Grille. After countless applications, submitting hundreds of resumes, and praying nonstop for a job, I have finally got one! I know that there are many of you still on the hunt. Here are a few tips to help your search, and remember to revisit "Hunt for the Summer Job" .
1. Update your resume. Be sure to include any new internships, skills, job experiences. Also, have all of your information up to date so that employers can reach you.
2. Post Resume of sites such as Monster or Career Builder. This is a great source for employers to find qualified candidates.
3. Career Office. It's not too late to visit your school's office of Career Services to find out information on available summer internships or career opportunities. They will also aid you in catering your resume to a specific field.
4. Hit the pavement. Now is the time to knock on a few doors, make a few phone calls, blast emails to anyone you've connected with. Time to fill out countless applications and resumes. Be sure to include your resume with your completed applications.
*Bring a laptop with you in case the job's application is online. Apply right there!
5. Follow through. Call back to check the status of your application. Many employer receive too many to keep up with and your may get lost in the pile. This is a good way to show that you take initiative as well.
The hunt can be challenging, but rewarding at the end. A lot of times it's not what you know, but who you know. Call in favors or ask friends to put in a good name for you. Once you get the job, the next challenge will be keeping it ...
