We're not going to be broke forever.

How many of you guys remember www.Fastweb.com? I was obsessed with that site when I was on the search for colleges and scholarships. I probably filled out more than 1,000 scholarships ...maybe even more. Recently, I went to their site just to check it out once more and stumbled upon an article called "How to Avoid Being a Broke College Student". Perfect, right?

It's interesting that college students are stereotyped as being broke. We are young, in our prime, eager to learn, but broke. Why is that we have to go through the struggling phase before we get to live comfortably? I guess the college lifestyle of a broke college student is a way to make us more appreciative of what we have and what we will gain with our knowledge and skills. We have to work towards that life we want. I guess that's the American way. I appreciate college despite the struggle a broke student has to face. College is the time we learn about ourselves. We're tested, not only in class, but in life. Just something to think about. I know that it can be tough, and quite discouraging at times, but we all are working towards being better. College has made us better. The struggle has made us better. So, when you feel like giving up, don't. Keep pushing towards your goals and keep motivated. One day, you will have the world, or the version that you are seeking. That's what I continue to tell myself because I know the struggle is real.

That was my little pep talk for the day, but I can't leave you without a few tips :)

1. Spend your money wisely. Tax season is around the corner, and if you haven't already received your check, take some time out to plan out your expenses. Possibly,  pay off some interest on your student loans or start a savings account.

2. Look for a Summer Job or internship. If you haven't already started the search, the time is now to get on the grind for a summer job or internship. Since you'll have more free time this summer, find a job where you can gain some experience in your field or an internship that pays. Be sure to visit your financial aid or career planning office for resources on where to search. Monster.com and www.Careerbuilder.com are good sites to create a profile with your resume and skills.

3.  Network. Meet peers, friends of friends, followers, etc. The time is now to begin networking with people in your field or of similar interests. Make the connections so that you can be prepared when the time comes to find a job, start a project, or anything. It's not what you know, but who you know. Meet the special guests that come to speak on campus and remember to take your business cards or resumes. Always follow up and build on those relationships.

While we may be broke now, we won't always be. Prepare yourself for the future by making the necessary connections you need. Take the time to plan things out and always remain focus. It's almost over.

Signed,

A Broke Student
