My first official post!
Hey y'all, it's Nika. This is my first official post for "A Broke student. How exciting! Whats not exciting though is the FAFSA. Am I the only one stuck with the confused face when trying to fill it out? I found out that what's helps me is being prepared. Having all the information I need to complete the form makes the process go a lot smoother. I hope these few tips can help you.
What is the FAFSA?
The FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. It is used to determine the expected family contribution, or efc. It also determines what federal student aid programs are available to the student.
1. Apply early! The sooner the better. While your oarent's tax return is needed to complete the application, the form is available on January 1st, TODAY. You are able to estimate the numbers or use the information from last year. Financial aid works on a first come, first served basis.
2. Do it with your parents. Choose a time where your parents can sit down with you to fill in all the information. Whether over the phone or face to face. You will need to know their tax information in order to complete the FAFSA.
3. It's ok if you make mistakes. You can always go back and correct any mistakes with your pin. Remember to submit the form as soon as possible, and also correct your mistakes as soon as possible to ensure maximum financial aid.
4. Need help? The FAFSA toll free number is 1-800-433-3243 is available Monday thru Friday at 8:00 am to 11:59 pm. They are also available on Saturday from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.
